The drone ban has been issued at the request of the Chief of Police in Suðurnes, in connection with Ljósanótt.

The drone ban has been issued at the request of the Chief of Police in Suðurnes, in connection with Ljósanótt.

Due to law enforcement drone operations in connection with the Ljósanótt 2026 cultural festival, the Icelandic Transport Authority, at the request of the Chief of Police in the Suðurnes region, has prohibited all drone operations over Reykjanesbær within the area defined by the following coordinates:

A: 63°59′35″ N, 22°34′07″ W
B: 63°59′43″ N, 22°31′42″ W
C: 64°00′59″ N, 22°32′11″ W
D: 64°01′00″ N, 22°35′07″ W
E: 64°00′06″ N, 22°34′20″ W

The restriction applies from the surface (SFC) up to 900 feet above mean sea level (AMSL).

The restriction is in effect from 12:00 on 4 September until 08:00 on 6 September 2026.

Requests for exemptions should be submitted to the Chief of Police in the Suðurnes region via email at [email protected].
