Version 6 of the PBN Transition Plan takes effect on 1 November 2026.
Significant progress has been made in recent years in the implementation of Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) within the BIRD CTA.
PBN implementation in the oceanic airspace has been completed in accordance with the strategy for the NAT Region.
Work is ongoing to implement RNAV and RNP SIDs, STARs and instrument approach procedures at airports in Iceland, in line with applicable regulatory requirements.
The implementation of PBN also includes the decommissioning of selected NDBs and the establishment of appropriate contingency arrangements. It should be noted that there are currently no plans to reduce the number of VORs or DMEs as part of the PBN implementation.
Iceland’s PBN Implementation Plan is updated annually in the autumn. The plan has been developed in consultation with airspace users and airports and in accordance with Icelandic Regulation No. 444/2020 and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/1048.
